After Lidl introduced WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) connectivity for in-store shoppers to its German estate in October, rival discounter Aldi Süd has matched the move by offering the service in its 1,600+ home market outlets. The system will allow shoppers to search for recipe ingredients faster or discover more about products, according to an Aldi spokesperson. While Aldi lags significantly behind Lidl in digital development, upgrading its stores in this way does pave the way for further progress in app-based engagement in future.
