Metro Cash & Carry in Russia has altered its pricing policy to drive traffic and raise sales. Its previous price tiering, which encouraged larger bulk purchasing, was found to discourage smaller wholesale buyers, who were getting discounts in the region of 6.5% versus the 30% larger buyers were receiving.

Metro has now changed its policy, providing 10% discounts for purchases of three units of goods and 15% for purchases of six units for most of the food assortment. Given that Metro has not informed suppliers of the decision, it is assumed that the business itself is carrying the cost of these promotions.
